Update: Sequencing COVID19 virus on our MinION!

Last Friday (Mar 28), our CSO, Dr.HanMing Gan, facilitated COVID19 genome sequencing on MinION at University of Malaya, the first in Malaysia! We want to thank Dr Chan Yoke Fun and Ms Yoong Min Chong for this opportunity. The sequences are now available at NCBI:

1. Why is sequencing COVID19 genome important?

The genome sequence paints a picture for scientists and epidemiologists to understand the virus origin, how it spreads, and how it is changing in Malaysia and the world.

2. What’s next?
We are preparing to multiplex COVID19 genome sequencing on our Illumina system. Our strategy is to make the process cost effective, quick (with local sequencing and bioinformatics support) and scalable. We can do so if we have access to samples (purified RNA or cDNA material).

3. How can you help?
Currently, authorities (e.g: MOH/MOSTI) are inundated with requests, issues and attention. GeneSEQ Sdn. Bhd. is ready and willing to help local scientists and authorities using our expertise. If you have the necessary contacts, please tag them and bring this to their attention.

In the meantime, stay healthy and stay safe!
